Most public-domain works live on one company's servers. When that company closes or changes its terms, the public loses access. Data Pond stores these works permanently on open, audited infrastructure, and lets anyone check that a copy hasn't been altered.

Files on a single company's servers can be deleted, paywalled or lost.
Links break and formats age, so digitised works slowly disappear.
There is no shared, audited way to prove a digital copy hasn't been altered.
